Newsletter November 1st-6th

Ms. Hewitt’s Fourth Grade Class Newsletter
Sunday, November 1st, 2015

Good Evening Guardians and Students,

Age of Sail Update! Crews were established on Friday and students are fired up to begin training. I will be contacting parents who volunteered to help teach knot tying and make our class song books. This is such a fun and exciting time of year!

We are looking for parents to donate “Age of Sail Galley Gear.” We need 40 clean tin cans to drink out of, 40 metal fork and spoons, and 40 metal pie tins (not disposable). We had these donated years ago and need to replace them this year. Thank you so much for your contribution.

Lastly, The PayPal link for our Age of Sail class hoodies is on our school website! Click Here to order your sweatshirts. Be sure to include your child’s name when you order. These sweatshirts are important for the trip because they help us be able to spot each other in a crowd, they keep us warm on the chilly Balcutha, and further builds our community. They are also a fourth grade “right of passage” that everyone looks forward to, including me!

Our class started the Olympic Triathlon with a bang! This week we earned the honor of winning the Olympic  torch! Our students were so proud. Thank you to the families who donated this week. If every student brings in 5$ next week we have a chance of earning a class party. Our specialty classes are such an important component to our school. Thanks again for doing all you can to raise money for our amazing school!

This Wednesday, November 4th is Family Explorit Science Night! This is going to be an amazing, hands-on, K-8 night of Science Exploration CLICK HERE for more information!

KCRA Kids Can Food Drive: We are collecting non-perishable food items for the KCRA Kids Can Food Drive from October 26th-November 6th.  We will be donating all of our food items to Joey’s Food Locker, which goes directly to families who reside in the Natomas Unified School District. Donate one thing from your pantries this week.

Assessments are going to be given this week to show what students have learned the first trimester of fourth grade. I am so excited to share in your child’s growth during student-led conferences November 18th-20th.

Thank you Jason, William, and Lindsay for purchasing books for our classroom library from the Book Fair. Your contribution has the students super jazzed to read exciting new books! Also thank you Alicia for a surprise Amazon Gift Card for me to use towards our classroom. So thoughtful!

Monday, November 2nd is the final collection date for the Walktober tracking Sheets. Friday November 6th there will be a finalized winner for the class with the MOST COMPLETED tracking sheets and the student with the most walking TRIPS. The Classroom prize will be a catered ice cream party from Big Spoon and the top two teachers with the most tracking sheets turned in (not trips, but sheets), will be given a $20 dollar gift card to Corner Bakery. In addition to the normal prizes given out there will also be a chance for the top 80 participants to receive a free Kids Breakfast at the Corner Bakery.
