Newsletter November 16th-20th

Ms. Hewitt’s Fourth Grade Class Newsletter
Monday, November 16th, 2015

Good Morning Guardians and Students,

I would like to start by saying a huge THANK YOU to each and everyone of you. On both Tuesday and Thursday the students were showing me with birthday cards, gifts, and hugs. Thank you for making my birthday week so incredibly special!

This week is one of the most important weeks of the year, student led parent teacher conferences! Thank you EVERYONE for signing up! I look forward to discussing your child’s growth. They have worked so hard and it is truly a joy to see them share that with you!

4th Grade Awards Assembly:  The 4th-grade academic awards assembly will be held on Friday, November 20th from 8:20 AM - 8:45 AM.  4th grade will meet on the blacktop for morning line up, then head to the cafeteria for the assembly at the start of Morning Line Up.

Thank you so much to all the families who helped volunteer at WCS Olympic Triathlon on Friday. The students had a wonderful time creating asian inspired artwork, playing go fish in espanol, and participating in relay races. WCS has until December 4th to hit our Olympic Triathlon fundraising goal. Keep collecting and donating for our school. Thanks for all that you do!

Congratulations Megan and Toby for representing the Hewittians at our school spelling Bee December 9th 6-7 in our cafeteria. I look forward to seeing you all there to root these amazing students on!

Please send up the white envelopes that were sent home on Thursday. Free & Reduced Lunch Forms: For several reasons, it is very important that each of our families is accounted for when we calculate how many of our students are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals at school. First, Westlake feels very strongly that having access to healthy food is incredibly important to student health and learning. Furthermore, as we are quickly approaching our Charter Renewal hearing with the Natomas Unified School District, it is important to report to our authorizers the number of families who have applied for this program. Our school is credited for each family that applies, so please, even if you are not sure your family qualifies, we encourage you to apply.
It has come to our attention that not every family has had the opportunity to complete a Free & Reduced Lunch Application. To ensure we have a 100% response rate, we are asking every family to take one of the following actions:
  1. Complete the application and turn it in at next week’s parent conference.
Or
  1. Sign and return the cover letter stating that either:
    1. Your family prefers to decline the opportunity to complete the form
    2. Your family has already filled out the form this school year

When every family takes one of the above actions, we can ensure that our school will have the most accurate account possible of this information. Thank you for your support. This information will help our students, as well as our school.
Age of Sail Update

Who would like to earn some parent volunteer hours by cleaning our new pie tins? There are a few stickers that need to be picked off and we would just like them cleaned before students use them for their meals. Thank you for volunteering!

This week 4th grade will be sending home Age of Sail permission slips. Please read over the paperwork carefully and return all the paperwork at once. This field lesson is an exceptional, unforgettable experience. I can not wait for it!

I am looking for a parent who would be willing to sew our class ensign. Our class is coming up with a design and it will need to be ready before Winter Break. Thank you for your consideration!

The PayPal link for our Age of Sail class hoodies is on our school website! Click Here to order your sweatshirts. Be sure to include your child’s name when you order.

Thank You!

Thank you Donna McDonald and Anthony’s mother for helping with all of the Age of Sail copies and conference paperwork. You ladies are amazing!
